Assign routes, monitor progress, and respond to exceptions during the day

overview

Use Maven Dispatch to coordinate closely with drivers throughout the operating day.

Assign and reassign routes to drivers

At the start of the day and as conditions change:

  • Assign each planned route to the correct driver.

  • Dispatch routes so they appear on the driver’s mobile app.

  • Reassign routes when drivers start late, break down, or change plans.

  • Confirm the reassigned driver can see and open the route in the app.

Avoid frequent reassignments that create confusion unless operations require them.

Monitor driver locations and ETAs

Use the board to track real‑time status:

  • Watch vehicle markers on the map for location and movement.

  • Check ETAs and late indicators for each stop.

  • Sort routes by risk or lateness to find problem areas quickly.

  • Track idle or unstarted routes and intervene early.

Use this view as the primary tool for managing by exception.

Manage by exception instead of micromanaging

Focus attention on high‑risk routes:

  • Filter for late routes, missed time windows, or stalled progress.

  • Investigate routes where ETAs push beyond customer commitments.

  • Prioritize outreach to drivers on those routes.

  • Use notes and tags to flag routes that need extra monitoring.

Stop investing effort in routes that are clearly on track.

Communicate clear instructions to drivers

When messaging is available:

  • Send route‑level updates when plans or priorities change.

  • Attach stop‑level instructions when conditions at a location change.

  • Reference shipment IDs, stop numbers, and customer names in each message.

  • Keep messages brief and specific.

Log or archive key communications as required by customer or regulatory rules.

Balance workload throughout the day

Use Dispatch to adjust workload as events unfold:

  • Move stops from overloaded routes to drivers with spare capacity.

  • Add recovery work or add‑on pickups to routes that will finish early.

  • Combine small volumes where it makes sense geographically.

  • Confirm each affected driver sees and understands the new plan.

Avoid overloading drivers late in the day when they cannot realistically complete the work.

Escalate operational and technical issues

Escalate when:

  • Routes assigned and dispatched do not appear on driver devices.

  • Multiple drivers show stale locations or missing ETAs.

  • Reassignment, messaging, or stop management tools do not behave as expected.

Provide route IDs, driver IDs, timestamps, and screenshots to support fast resolution.
