A–C

ADSC (Automatic Duty Status Changes)
Maven ELD feature that automatically updates a driver’s duty status (e.g., On Duty, Driving) based on vehicle movement and engine data from the VDA, instead of requiring the driver to change status manually.

Adverse driving conditions (ADC)
FMCSA exception that allows extending driving time when unexpected weather or road conditions (such as sudden snow, accidents, or closures) delay a trip. Supported in Maven as an HOS exemption option in the mobile app.

Asset
A physical item Maven tracks and uses to complete work, such as a vehicle, trailer, VDA, or user.

Bill of lading (BOL)
Shipping document that lists freight details for a load. Drivers often capture a BOL photo or number in Maven stop forms as part of proof of delivery.

Breadcrumbs
Individual GPS points that the VDA sends to Maven while the truck is moving or parked.Maven connects these breadcrumb points into a line (a polyline) on the Vehicle History map so you can see exactly where the truck was at specific times

Break clock
HOS timer in the Maven mobile app that counts down to when a required 30‑minute break is due (typically before 8 hours of drive time). Resets after a qualifying 30‑minute continuous break.

Bring backs
A type of completion code used when a delivery fails and the shipment should return to planning. When a stop is completed with a bring-back code, Maven creates a new unassigned stop for that shipment so planners can reattempt the delivery on a future route

Cycle clock
HOS timer that tracks total on‑duty and drive time over an 8‑day cycle (usually 70 hours, sometimes 80 in Texas operations). Resets only after a continuous 34‑hour off‑duty or sleeper berth break.

Customer location (location)
A customer, terminal, or site where pickups and deliveries occur. In Maven Admin / Fleet Portal this appears as a Location record with attributes such as address, time zone, terminal, tags, and geofence.

D–F

Depart stop
Action in the Maven mobile app that drivers complete after finishing all work and required forms at a stop. If it is the final stop and all forms are complete, Complete trip becomes available.

Door
A dock location where a trailer parks at a terminal so workers can load or unload freight. In Maven, doors link manifests and shipments to specific physical positions on the dock for planning, scanning, and move-to assignments.

Drive clock
HOS timer that tracks driving time during a shift. Under the standard 11/14 rule, drivers can drive up to 11 hours before a 10‑hour reset is required.

Driver profile
Record that stores a driver’s contact details, HOS ruleset, and configuration. Viewed and managed in the Fleet Portal and used by the Maven mobile app for login and HOS behavior.

Driver signup code
Unique code used to create a new driver account in the Maven mobile app. Found in the Fleet Portal user profile and entered in the app using the Driver signup code option on the login screen.

DVIR (Driver vehicle inspection report)
Required pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection report that documents vehicle condition and defects. Drivers complete DVIRs in the Maven mobile app; records are available for review in the Fleet Portal.

Dynamic routing
Building routes on demand based on the specific orders for a given day or period, using optimization to decide which driver runs which stops, in what order, and along which path to best meet capacity, time, and distance constraints

ELD (electronic logging device)
System that automatically records driving and HOS data. Maven ELD combines vehicle hardware (adapter) and the Maven mobile app to capture and display compliant HOS logs.

ELD malfunction / HOS log error
Condition where ELD data is missing, incorrect, or incomplete (for example, device/hardware issues). May cause incorrect logs or apparent violations. Often corrected through admin edits; some invalid violations require Maven Support to clear.

G–I

Geocode
Map Set of geographic coordinates - latitude and longitude- that represents a specific physicla location on Earth.  Geocoding is the process of converting a street address, place name into numeric coordinates that mapping and GPS systems can use.

Geofence
Map boundary around a location used to detect arrivals and departures. Configured in Maven Admin on each location. Accurate geofences improve automatic stop arrival/departure and ETA accuracy.

HOS (Hours of Service)
FMCSA rules that govern how many hours drivers can drive and be on duty. In Maven, HOS includes duty statuses, logs, timers, and violations tracked by the ELD system.

HOS log
Record of a driver’s duty statuses across time. Displayed as a graph and event list in the Maven mobile app and Fleet Portal. Used for compliance reviews and inspections.

HOS ruleset
Set of HOS rules (for example, property‑carrying 70‑in‑8‑days) assigned to a driver. Determines how timers, breaks, and violations are calculated in Maven.

IMEI
A unique 15‑digit identifier assigned to a mobile device or tablet. In Maven, support and operations use the IMEI to identify a specific device in logs, troubleshoot connectivity, and verify that the correct hardware is associated with a driver or vehicle.

Inspection mode (roadside inspection)
Special mode in the Maven mobile app for DOT inspections. Allows drivers to view logs in inspection format and send a secure DOT log file to FMCSA systems.

J–L

Location attributes
Core fields on a location record, such as name, code, address, time zone, geofence, terminal, category, tags, availability, and routing days. These control routing, dispatch, and how trips appear to drivers.

Location availability
Configured days and times when a location can accept service (for example, receiving hours). Used by routing and planning to avoid scheduling stops outside receiving hours.

Location category
Classification field for locations that can drive planning logic or order behavior (for example, customer, terminal, depot).

Location maintenance
Ongoing updates to a location record, including time zone, availability, terminal, tags, geofence, and status (active/inactive). Performed in Maven Admin / Fleet Portal.

M–O

Manifest
A manifest (also called a route instance or trip) is the ordered set of planned work a driver completes on a shift. It includes the sequence of service events or stops, the assigned driver, vehicle and trailers, and the date and time window for that work.

Maven mobile app
Android app used by drivers for HOS logging, DVIR, routes, navigation, messaging, and trip workflows. Connects to vehicles via a Maven adapter to support ELD functionality.

Maven VDA (vehicle data adapter)
Hardware device installed in vehicles that sends engine and movement data to the Maven mobile app and Fleet Portal. Enables automatic driving detection and ELD compliance.

Messages (driver messaging)
Feature in the Maven mobile app that lets drivers receive and reply to messages from dispatch. Unread messages are highlighted (for example, with a blue dot) in the Messages tab.

Null edit
Admin edit that changes a duty status to the same status it already had, used to force HOS timers to recalculate without changing the underlying log history. Always documented with a clear comment.

Order
A customer request to move goods or materials. Each order has a unique ID and includes shipper and consignee details, service dates and times, freight description, and any handling or billing requirements.

P–R

Personal conveyance (PC)
Off‑duty HOS status used when moving a vehicle for personal reasons (for example, driving to a restaurant or hotel). Does not count against drive or shift limits when used correctly and allowed by company policy.

Polylines
A polyline is the route line on the map: a series of connected GPS points (lat/long) that shows the planned or actual path a vehicle takes.

PowerCycle
Turning the truck and VDA fully off and then back on to reset the connection. Typically: ignition OFF until VDA lights go out, wait ~30–60 seconds, then ignition ON and let the truck run so the VDA can reconnect

Pro/PRO number
Unique tracking number that a carrier assigns to a shipment for identification and tracking in Maven and other systems

Roadside inspection
DOT inspection performed at the roadside or scale. In Maven, drivers use Roadside inspection mode to show logs and send a secure DOT log file to FMCSA.

Route
Planned sequence of stops and locations a driver will service. In Maven Dispatch/Planning, routes are created and optimized; in the mobile app, drivers see assigned routes and stop order.

Route card
The panel in Maven Dispatch that opens when you select a route. It displays key route and manifest details (such as driver, vehicle, times, and settings) and lets you review and edit those details.

Routing days
Days of the week when a location is eligible for order generation or routing (for example, M/W/F service). Used by planning tools and integrations to determine when orders and trips should be scheduled.

Route instance
A single, dated execution of a route. It is the instantiated route for a specific day (or shift) with an ordered set of stops that a driver and vehicle run.

S–U

Service Area
Is the geographic territory that a terminal or route covers for pickups and deliveries. It usually corresponds to a specific region, city, or group of ZIP codes that a terminal is responsible for serving.

Shift clock
HOS timer that tracks the overall on‑duty window (commonly 14 hours). Includes drive time, on‑duty time, and shorter off‑duty/sleeper periods under 2 hours. Resets after a qualifying 10‑hour break.

Shipment
The freight tied to a stop in Maven, identified by a PRO or reference number and tracked through planning and execution.

Short‑haul (16‑hour) exemption
FMCSA exemption that allows certain short‑haul drivers to extend their workday up to 16 hours once per cycle, under specific conditions. Exposed in Maven as a 16‑hour exemption option.

Signal Lost
A VDA connection state where Maven has not received data from the device for a defined period (for Maven, generally 2+ hours). In this state, the vehicle stops sending location and engine data, and features like ADSC may stop working until the connection is restored.

Sleeper berth status
HOS duty status used when resting in the sleeper. Can be used as part of a full 10‑hour break or split sleeper combinations, depending on ruleset configuration.

Stop
Assigning customers or orders to fixed, repeatable routes that run on a consistent pattern (for example, the same driver, stops, and general sequence on specific days). Routes change infrequently and planners maintain them over time.

Static Routing
Individual pickup or delivery point within a trip or route. Each stop in the Maven mobile app has arrive/depart actions and may require forms, photos, signatures, and completion codes.

Terminal
An operating location or branch in a carrier’s network that manages drivers, vehicles, and freight for a specific region. In Maven, terminals group users, vehicles, and service areas for reporting, permissions, and dispatch

Trip
Group of stops associated with a single trailer or movement. Drivers start, run, and complete trips in the Maven mobile app. Only one trip can be active at a time.

Trip completion
Final step in the trip workflow where the driver marks a trip complete after all stops are arrived, departed, and all required forms are finished.

Trip history
View in the Maven mobile app that shows trips completed in the recent past (for example, last 30 days), used for reference and troubleshooting.

Trailer
A non‑powered unit attached to a truck to carry freight; Maven tracks it as a trailer asset linked to routes, manifests, and doors.

Truck
The motorized vehicle that pulls trailers and carries the VDA; Maven tracks it as a vehicle asset.

V–Z

Vehicle connection
Link between the Maven mobile app and a specific truck/adapter. Needed for automatic driving detection, odometer capture, and ELD functions. Managed from the truck icon in the app.

Vehicle session
Period starting when a driver connects to a vehicle in the app and ending when they tap Leave vehicle. Active sessions can be viewed in the Fleet Portal under Vehicles.

Vehicle Data Adapter(VDA)
The in vehicle hardware device that connects the truck's engine (ECM) to Maven's systems.  The VDA collects and transmits real-time vehicle data to the Maven Fleet platform and the Maven Mobile app.

Yard moves (YM)
On‑duty HOS special driving category used for low‑speed movements within a yard (terminal, customer lot, maintenance facility). Not counted as standard driving time if configured correctly and used within speed/location constraints.
